At the start of this school year, most schools in Philadelphia will use a digital learning model to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. For many children, this will mean learning at home with caregiver supervision or in a childcare center. However, some families do not have those options because they work outside of the home and can’t afford or access childcare support.
In response to this challenge, the City and community partners will open dozens of Access Centers to provide supervised, connected spaces where children in K-6th grades can participate in digital learning provided by their school. Access Center locations will include certain rec centers, libraries, and Philadelphia Housing Authority sites.
The first phase of Access Centers will serve 800 students beginning Tuesday, September 8. Additional centers will open on a rolling basis.
