City Controller Rhynhart on Gun Violence When: Tuesday, September 20, 2022 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Where: Online with Zoom Philadelphia news is overwhelmingly filled with stories of shootings and gun fatalities. Numbers have increased dramatically in recent years, despite a wide range of federal, city, and community programs to mitigate this scourge. Studies abound on the causes, locations, demographics and characteristics of the violence. Some call for more policing and "boots on the ground," (City Council President Darrell Clarke proposes a return to "Stop and Frisk"). Others call for diverting money from the police to investment in underserved neighborhoods and social engagement. Our City Controller, Rebecca Rhynhart, will present her observations and findings on gun violence, and will entertain questions from CCRA members. The Controller's office has no direct control over anti-violence programs. But it is in a key position to observe what is taking place, by whom, to what effect, and whether our tax dollars are spent on anti-violence programs that are efficient and effective.
