It’s no secret (or surprise) that Philadelphia offers a wealth of authentic and top-notch experiences.

And with so many museums, attractions, parks, markets and more in this vibrant city and region, it’s challenging to know where to begin.

Atlanta’s tragic shootings on March 16, 2021 broke the hearts and minds of the Asian and Asian American community across the United States. After generations of marginalization and invisibility, and especially after a full year of being targets of racist taunting, rhetoric, hate, and violence, the community’s tolerance came to a halt.

Now that all of our K-2 families have had the opportunity to opt into hybrid learning, we are excited to announce the next phase of our plan to slowly and safely welcome more students back to school buildings for in-person learning. For Phase II, families of students in the following two groups will be able to choose between the hybrid learning model and the 100% digital learning model -- whatever works best given the needs of your child and family:

    • all students in grades 3-5, and
    • students with complex needs in grades 6-8 only.

The Phase II Learning Model Selection Survey will open on Tuesday, April 6th, and close on Tuesday, April 13th. Hybrid learning students in this phase will attend school in person two days per week and engage in digital learning three days each week, beginning the week of Monday, April 26, 2021. Staff supporting Phase II students will return to school buildings on Monday, April 12th, to engage in professional development and prepare their classrooms for their students’ return.

The Philadelphia area is uniquely qualified to pilot the Civilian Climate Corps (CCC), a central feature of Biden’s proposed $2 trillion infrastructure and jobs plan, according to a spokesperson from the William Penn Foundation.  If the acronym CCC sounds familiar, it is because it evokes the Civilian Conservation Corps, the most popular program of F.D.R.’s New Deal. Unlike the original CCC, though, the Civilian Climate Corps would train and employ a diverse workforce in climate-focused projects in urban, suburban as well as rural areas.

The Philadelphia region offers the three elements vital to jumpstarting CCC’s goal of green job creation. First, it has a diverse array of landscapes including parks, watershed, farmland and urban green spaces. Second, healthy public-private partnerships are already at work restoring these public lands. Finally, CCC could built upon and expand existing model jobs training programs in Philadelphia and Camden. Read more about this unique opportunity for Philadelphia in this recent Inquirer op-ed piece.
