STREET SCENE GARDEN COMPETITION


Gardener Categories


“Do It Yourself” --done by the individual property owner or renter


Professional—done by a landscaping service or garden center


Residential (single house or entire block) and commercial properties are eligible to enter

The Rules


1. Gardens entered for competition must be located within the CCRA limits and visible from the street.

2. Contest entry deadline is June 30, 2015.

3. At least 50% of properties on a block must have plantings to qualify as a garden block.

4. Individual contestants may apply for themselves and on behalf of a garden block

5. Contestants who volunteer to serve as judges are not permitted to judge other gardens in the same category as their own.

6. Decision of the judges is final.

 Judging

 

Volunteer judges are chosen for their competence and accomplishments in gardening. Judging will take place in July, and gardens will be judged on:


Variety of Plants Originality and Imagination

Suitability of Plants Design and Total Visual Effect

Maintenance Sustainability

Use of Space                      Use of Color                             


At the end of the competition you will receive a copy of the judge's form, including personalized comments(i.e. what was good, what could be better)


 Awards Reception


City gardeners deserve praise and recognition for their generosity and ability to cope with difficult growing conditions.  All gardeners and judges will be invited to an awards reception at the Schuylkill River Park Community Garden to celebrate the high caliber of winning gardens. Photographs of the winning gardens will be showcased at this event.

STREET SCENE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION


Categories of Entry

Promotional-- photos that reflect the mission and purpose of CCRA and the Street Scene project, which is to promote community in Center City through greening and gardening


Artistic-- maximum room for artistic expression and composition. These can include extreme close-ups (macro) photography, and effects generated with Photoshop to create compelling artistic compositions.

Photographers will be notified of garden addresses at the close of the registration time--June 30.
