Addressing Gun Violence in Our City

  • 16 Mar 2021

  • Virtual

Philadelphia is fighting two epidemics simultaneously – COVID-19 and gun violence. As we work toward vaccinating our residents, we cannot lose sight of the violence that persistently plagues many of our neighborhoods.

Gun violence is the primary contributor to Philadelphia’s increasing homicide rate that is already up 30 percent over last year and more than double the rate from five years ago. This ongoing public safety epidemic is taking more lives every year – more sisters, brothers, parents, and neighbors. Our families are struggling with insurmountable levels of loss right now and enough is enough.

Residents, community leaders, and government officials need to work together to create effective solutions to stop the violence. We need an open dialogue where community has a voice and agency in this process if we’re going to make real, sustainable change happen.

Please join me Tuesday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. for a Public Safety Virtual Town Hall.

My featured guests are Philadelphia’s Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw and Senior Director of Criminal Justice and Public Safety Erica Atwood. They will discuss Philadelphia's rising gun violence and the steps they’re making to right-course this City.

Sincerely,
